Д.и., вложившего свои средства в публичную компанию, состоит из двух компонентов: текущей прибыли (точнее: дивидендного дохода) и оценки капитала (или роста его стоимости). Для публичных компаний ожидаемый рост стоимости соответствует требуемой окупаемости инвестиции за вычетом ожидаемой дивидендной доходности. Для частных компаний это соотношение может быть нарушено различными потенциальными затратами (напр., чрезмерным, по сравнению с рыночным уровнем, вознаграждением главного собственника).
